Here is my first quick poster mock up with before and after. I still have to do some tweaks and I'd have preferred a slightly taller font, but close enough. What do you think?
Thanks for everyone's quick replies and great suggestions. I will be able to get these up tomorrow for maximum impact. I'll post some photo's tomorrow night with the final posters. But for now keep those suggestions coming...

Frankly, I find your response poster's statement rather childish. Your act of putting up these reply posters also comes across as needlessly confrontational, not only to atheists but to non-Christians in general. If you feel affronted by these atheist posters, perhaps a better solution would be to either complain to the university authorities, or to take up the issue with this "AUA" (I believe they have a facebook/website link on their posters).
ReplyDeleteWow. Amazing. Childish and moronic. You sure showed them.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your anonymous thoughts. Very non-confrontational of you, and an apt thing to do in light of your comment. However, I think you have grossly misread my intentions in regard to these posters. If you read the post where I asked for help coming up with slogans, I hope it came across how great I think it is these atheist posters were put up.
There was never the thought to complain to the uni. It is a great thing when people engage with Christians rather than ignoring them. Their right to advertise and attack is exactly the same as ours (though we don't go on the offensive and we always advertise the place where we are meeting for people to come and engage with us). I am not scared of atheists or their ideas or discussion. Thus the reason we advertised our meeting on the bottom of each poster response.
Is it really unnecessarily confrontational to respond to a faceless group who have never had any presence on campus who have placed posters on every available space dismissing everyone who doesn't agree with them as an ignorant fool? We have merely responded in a hopefully witty manner, which will promote discussion amongst those who read the posters. Responding to clever and funny slogans (and they most definitely are) with hopefully clever and funny slogans, isn't what I would call childish. Quite the opposite to confrontation, I feel we have turned a confrontation into a discussion.
In regards to this poster, I do concede it is by far the one that engages the least with the ideas put forward. But I thought it was funny. I don't think it was any harsher than what they posted. Humour is never universal so I can understand how you'd label it childish. It's absolutely fine if it's below your level of candour. But if you have a better response in 8 words or less that is witty and responds to the poster, I'd love to hear it.
ReplyDeleteIt might make more sense in light of the series of posters I am about to post.
One more thought. The title of this post "No, you're an oxymoron!" which is similarly meant to be taken in jest perhaps sets a particular tone which effects the reading of the poster in a negative way.
ReplyDeleteIgnore Paroxysm. He's one of my angry atheist friends. He's a nice enough guy... and wouldn't go posting anonymously because he's quite proud of his ideas.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous was classic passive agressive - and probably confused - censorship is so last millenium. I think (s)he's kind of missed the point of trying to encourage discourse.
Ignore is a little harsh. He's a smart guy. Engage with him. I enjoy our email discussions very much, you probably would too.
