When do you work out if you've got the gift of singleness?
My answer;
Before you start dating.
Because what happens if 12 months in, one of you decides they've got the gift and singleness and the other partner has decided they have the gift of marriage? Then what?
The first problem is that singleness is not a gift!!!! Or at least a spiritual gift. It is a gift when you consider it is given by God for his Glory.
ReplyDeleteIt is contentment. When a person would is content being single to serve God. I dont think many people like this idea. So that is why we hide it in the category the 'gift of singleness'.
But i like your answer.
Surely if you had the gift of singleness, you wouldn't be in a relationship?
ReplyDeleteOr at least you shouldn't be in a relationship (considering that dating is a precursor to marriage and so if you don't have a desire to get married (read are content in being single), why are you in a relationship?
But after all that, I think I agree with your answer (just had to do some thinking as I wrote to get there!). ;)
I think I agree with you both agreeing with me. I am also sceptical of the way we phrase the "gift of singleness" debate. But that discussion will be held off until a later post!
