What do Little Lion Man and Daniel 6 have in common?

They're both about lions, kind of.

Maybe I should have done an arts degree, because occasionally the creative side of me bursts forth in joyous song. It isn't always that joyous for those in the room at the time, but within I brim with joy. English folk band Mumford and Sons have been my soundtrack for summer and they currently sit at number two on both the single and album charts. As such, I was inspired as I listened to them win the Triple J Hottest 100 to combine a great song that mentions lions with a famous Bible story that does likewise.

Those with a high threshold for average singing and musicianship can check out the results here.

Lyrics are in the comments.

  1. Little Lions Den (Daniel 6)

Praying to a god or man
Other than King Darius is barred
    Cast in the lions den
The punishment for treason on your part
    Daniel cared for daily prayer
With windows wide for all to see
Prayed to God, thanked the LORD, just as he had done previously

And cause you prayed daily three times
The King will throw you to the lions
I guess your luck ran out this time
    Are you full of fear?
    Are you full of fear?

    Tremble in your sandles Dan
The statutes of the King cannot be scorned
    Thrown into the lions den
You don’t stand a chance to last ‘til dawn
Your faith is needed in this place
Your God must keep the lions from your flesh.
The entrance is covered, the chances are this night will end with death.

You could have prayed a few less times
Then it would be a hidden crime
Or if you just prayed more inside
    Only God would hear
And ‘cause the King wants you alive
He couldn’t get to sleep that night
And he was stuck till news arrived
    When the darkness cleared
    When the darkness cleared.

    Bridge

But it was not his night to die
    Because of circumstance divine
Daniel was kept safe from the lions
    Holding God revered.
Was his trust in God just blind?
    Should we expect similar signs?
You know God plucked us not from lions
    But something more severe
    Since Jesus appeared.

  3. Thanks Jeanette,

I believe the word you are looking for is a 'lurker'. But consider yourself de-lurked.

  5. Hey Jo, thanks for dropping by. Mumford and Sons are great and I'm disappointed I couldn't get tix to see them. I'll have to make sure Sarah drops by your blog too - you seem to be interested in many of the same things (From your profile: I love sewing, crafting, cooking and thrifting, and wish I had more hours in my day for all of these things.)
