Getting naked for God

In the recording of his prophecy, Micah very helpfully steps into the account through the use of the first-person. This ensures we are not left to our own devices as to how to respond to the word of the Lord. The first instance of this in the prophecy occurs in Micah 1:8. The thrust of chapters one and two are absolute horror at the rightful judgment of God against disobedient mankind; catastrophic judgment awaits at the gates of Jerusalem.
Micah 1:8 For this I will lament and wail; I will go stripped and naked; I will make lamentation like the jackals, and mourning like the ostriches.
Application could be fun on this one.

  1. Should I now say I'm really looking forward to this series, Izaac??

  2. You should be! I also left out that at the end of chapter 1 the people are encouraged to shave themselves bald as well.

By this will all men know that you are my disciples... if you shave your head, strip yourself bare and wail.

In all seriousness, I'm looking forward to a brief moment of lightheartedness in an otherwise melancholic reflection on the horror of the judgment of God.
